Here is today’s Bible reading: Numbers 24:1-25:18; Luke 2:1-35; Psalm 59:1-17; Proverbs 11:14.
Proverbs 11:14 (NIV)
For lack of guidance a nation falls,
but many advisers make victory sure.
It is so much easier to just make decisions by yourself. But easier usually isn’t better. How much better it is to seek the counsel of wise people. My problem is that too often I am selfish, want what I want, and have my mind made up. I’m not teachable and not really interested in what others have to say. So, I make up my own mind to do what I want to do. Big mistake. I need guidance and so do you. Who are your trusted advisers who will tell you the things you don’t necessarily want to hear but need to hear? Are you listening to them?

I know exactly what I am doing when I do not seek anyone else’s opinion. I am blocking the correction from making an impression on me spiritually. And I’m sick of it. As I’ve confessed to my “trusted advisers” recently, I am going to face this head on. For the sake of my relationship with God, my adult children, friends, church family, my grandchildren.
Thankfully, and true to their character, they are all checking back in with me for progress reports. With much grace and tenderness, I might add.
